No: 123, 24 April 2017, Press Release regarding the incident involving a patrol vehicle of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine hitting a landmine
We are saddened with the news that a vehicle belonging to the OSCE Monitoring Mission hit a landmine in the area of Stakhanov yesterday, resulting in the loss of life of a paramedic and wounding two international observers.
According to available information, investigation about the incidence is ongoing.
Turkey's unwavering support for the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine since its inception will continue in the future.
We convey our condolences to the SMM family and relatives of the paramedic who suffered fatal injuries in the line of duty and wish speedy recovery to those wounded in the unfortunate incident that occurred yesterday. The incident demonstrates the difficult and dangerous nature of the duty the SMM staff perform. We stress that their work should be facilitated and their safety and security be provided for under any circumstance.
Turkey will continue to support efforts for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine in line with its territorial integrity and sovereignty and full compliance to the Minsk Agreements by all parties.
